Irati-Abodi
When the mountain becomes a snow-covered slope
High up in Abodi, winter transforms the mountain and opens up a whole new way of exploring it. When snow covers the slopes and paths, the Irati-Abodi Mountain Centre becomes a starting point for cross-country skiing, Nordic skiing and exploring the landscape on snowshoes.
At over 1,300 metres above sea level, the trails wind their way through beech and fir forests and also stretch across the open areas of the mountain range. The forest accompanies much of the route, whilst the hills of Abodi offer more open stretches and panoramic views of the mountains of the Navarrese Pyrenees.
Here, snow is not just part of the landscape: it sets the pace of the experience. Skis allow you to glide along the marked trails, whilst snowshoes offer another way to walk across the white blanket of snow, taking you to corners of the forest that take on an almost unreal appearance in winter.
