Details of the Cueva de Mendukilo experience in Astiz, Plazaola-Sakana-Ultzamaldea.

From darkness to darkness. In honor of Isaac Santesteban. 1953.

Below the Aralar mountain range, the Mendukilo valley invites you to discover the underground world with attention and respect. This experience represents the steps of the first espeleologists that she explored in 1953, with the figure of Isaac Santesteban as a referent of Navarra espeleology. The visit begins in the audiovisual world, with an introduction that situates the history of the river and its natural environment. In this space you can also discover the original material used by the explorer found in Mendukilo, as well as the projection of a brief video with images from the ancients of espeleology in Navarra. Afterwards, helmet and front light mark the start of a recorrido of more than 500 meters and has 40 meters of depth.

In the cueva, the itinerary begins in Hartzain Zulo (Sala de los Pastores), used by pastors of the Edad del Hierro and key in the first scientific explorations. As we continue, we continue with the Galería de los Gentiles, and in the interior, the cold, the humidity and the darkness invite you to move forward with calm until the illumination reveals the magnificence of the space. The experience ends in reception, with a despedida and recuerdo de la travesía.
