Larra-Belagua Viewpoint

A balcony opening onto the heart of the Pyrenees

Here, where the rock splits into ancient crevices and the black pine clings to the heights as if it knew the secret of the wind, time dissolves into the vastness of the Pyrenees. At the Larra-Belagua Viewpoint dwells the silence of the peaks that shelter Aztaparreta and the invisible passage of the air that knows no borders. It is a place of open vistas, where the landscape unfolds without limits, alternating whites and greens in a continuity that reveals itself only to those who pause.

Larra-Belagua Viewpoint general information

Situated at an altitude of 1,344 metres, it is one of the most strategic vantage points in the Roncal Valley for observing the transition to the high mountains. Its identity is rooted in a landscape of glacial origin where karst is the dominant geological feature, offering a clear view of the terrain that integrates the town centre with the province’s natural surroundings.

It occupies a privileged position overlooking the Aztaparreta Integral Reserve and the Larra Nature Reserve, guarding unique ecosystems where vegetation clings to the rock in an almost wild state. Geographically, it is situated just below the trail of ancient military settlements, such as the Yeguaceros refuge-barracks, which adds a layer of historical memory to its current landscape.

  • The route: The climb takes in the gentle bends that wind through the valley, whilst the silhouettes of peaks such as Lakora begin to dominate a horizon that seems endless.
