Lantz

Between the forest and Calle Santa Cruz, Lantz unfolds as a place where the memory of carnival and everyday life share the same space. Here, the figure of Miel Otxin is not merely a festive memory, but a presence that forms part of the landscape, just like the distant sound of cowbells or the silhouette of the houses lined up in the valley.

Lantz general information

Lantz is situated 25 kilometres north of Pamplona, within the Merindad of Pamplona and the region of Ultzamaldea . Its urban layout follows a linear pattern, shaped by the old road that connected the Navarran capital with France until the 19th century. The town centre is centred on Calle Santa Cruz, the main thoroughfare along which the houses are aligned, whilst other streets such as San José and Zurgin form a more irregular layout.

It forms part of the Basque-speaking area of Navarre, with a predominantly bilingual population. Its economy is linked mainly to dairy farming, with cattle and sheep farms, and to the production of dairy products such as curd and fresh cheese. It stands out for holding the record as the Spanish village with the highest percentage of children (13.2%), a result of young families settling there since the 1990s.

What to see in Lantz?

Lantz brings together heritage, nature and tradition in a setting where every element forms part of the same story.

• Calle Santa Cruz and traditional architecture: The village’s main thoroughfare, where you can see the linear layout of the houses and the characteristic stone architecture.  
• Aierdi Caves: A 425-metre-long cave with an underground lake, currently closed for conservation due to the fragility of its formations.  
• Ascent to Saioa: A mountain route that passes through beech forests and connects with peaks such as Okolin until reaching Saioa, one of the highest points in the area.  
• Lime kilns and dolmens: Remains of ancient structures linked to lime production, alongside megalithic features in a woodland setting dominated by beech, oak and chestnut trees.  
• Baztan Way of St James: A historic variant of the Way that passes through the town and connects with the north.
