Usetxi
Stonework, mountains and ancient guardians
Stonework, mountains and ancient guardians
Usetxi is felt in the silence of the ridges and in the memory of a royal estate, where the locals, known as ‘hunters’, have inhabited this spur overlooking the River Arga for centuries. Here, the stone of the walls blends with the mountain’s contours, and the passage of time unfolds amidst the beech forest and the heights of Baratxueta, making the landscape a living witness to history.
Usetxi forms part of the Esteribar Valley. Its identity is intertwined with the history of a royal manor town, where hunting privileges have been enjoyed since the Middle Ages. Community life was organised in shifts amongst the working houses, and today the mountainous landscape of Usetxi maintains a link with Iragui, Urtasun, Leránoz and Esáin, preserving the essence of a place suspended between history and nature.
Here, every wall, every washhouse and every peak whispers stories of centuries past.
