The Great Route of the Pyrenees
A unique route combining breathtaking landscapes, lush forests, and endless trails, ideal for nature and adventure lovers.
The Great Pyrenees Mountain Bike Route traverses the Roncal Valley from north to south, reaching the neighboring Salazar Valley via the town of Vidangoz. In Salazar, the route climbs towards the foothills of the Abodi Mountains and their expansive pastures before descending to the Irati Beech Forest and passing the magnificent Irabia Reservoir. From there, it enters the Aezkoa Valley, continuing towards Roncesvalles and the Erro Valley before entering the Quinto Real Forest. Endless trails will lead us to the town of Zubiri, in the Esteribar Valley. After reaching the westernmost slope, the route heads east again, traversing the Erro, Arce, and Aezkoa valleys, this time through their lesser-known southern ranges, the Areta mountains. This leads to the Salazar Valley, where oak groves, beech forests, and ravines await as we cover the final kilometers of the route northward, seeking the highest passes in the Pyrenees. Finally, after a long descent from the Belagua area, the route descends into the Roncal Valley.
