The Great Route of the Pyrenees by gravel bike

The Great Pyrenees Gravel Route travels east through the Esteribar Valley via the Errea Pass, entering the Erro Valley and then immediately the Arce Valley. At this point, the route follows the EuroVelo 3 route, also known as the Pyrenean Roman Road, for a few kilometers. In the town of Oroz-Betelu, the route turns north and then east to ascend to the highest villages in the Aezkoa Valley, the "Abaurreas" (Upper and Lower). The next leg takes us to the Salazar Valley. From north to south, we cross the valley along the banks of the Salazar River and then cross into the neighboring Roncal Valley via the lesser-known Igal road and the town of Vidangoz. The route follows the Roncal Valley northwards, heading towards the vast pastures and peaks of the Pyrenees. After reaching the Pikatua pass, the route plunges into the majestic Irati beech forest, reaching the French side and descending towards Lower Navarre and the town of Valcarlos. After climbing again towards the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles and the neighboring town of Burguete, the route enters the Quinto Real Forest. Crossing from north to south and passing the Eugi reservoir, the route ends in the Esteriba Valley.
